BARBARA VAN DER ZANDEN
BARBARA VAN DER ZANDEN
Mirrored
This collection was inspired by Symmetric shapes and mirrored patterns. Image and product blended together to create a new shape. Multiplication, creating connections, mirrored images, concept of balance are keywords that best describe the designs. This collection contains pieces that can be separated into lone-standing parts like half a shirt and half a skirt and can be "mixed and
matched" by combining the right and left part. There are different colours and lengths, which elegantly breaks away from the notion of
symmetry but opens up a range of new possibilities. The skirts and shirts are sold piece-by-piece and the choice is left up to the individual;
with two parts you have a whole but the buyer can pick the colour and length of their choice -- any combination is possible.
More about Barbara van der Zanden
“The mathematical sciences particularly exhibit order, symmetry, and limitation; and these are the greatest forms of the beautiful.” The
words of Aristotle, the great Greek philosopher and scientist ring true when explaining the inspiration behind Barbara van der Zanden
Autumn Winter Collection, 2011. The mathematical influences you see hark back to the days when Barbara was a scientist pursuing logic
and reason. With a degree in physics she is able to combine her wealth of scientific knowledge with her ever-evolving tailoring skills to give us
a glimpse of how the art of science is omnipresent in fashion.
